Our
Story
What's "Ombrello?"
Italian for "umbrella," Ombrello pays homage to the iconic umbrella pines of Rome. Known for great variation from tree to tree, each of these expressive pines is unique. And as traditional symbols of Rome that are quite literally rooted, they also embody groundedness.
At Ombrello, we model our teaching on these trees' balanced character: in order to support what's unique about your child, we first lay down roots to create a thoughtful, stable launching pad. Together, we enable our students to excel in their fast-paced environments, both now and in their bright futures.
Gabe Lebeau
Ombrello Founder, Lead Tutor
Princeton University
Math, Test Prep, Computer Science, Writing
Hi, I’m Gabe! I’m Ombrello's founder and a 2023 graduate of Princeton University, where I was inducted into Phi Beta Kappa and earned a 3.95 GPA. I majored in Computer Science with minors in Italian and Philosophy, blending technical expertise with a love for the humanities. Most importantly, I’m all about tutoring—this is my 10th year helping students thrive in the most competitive environments and build confidence, curiosity, and self-sufficiency.
Ombrello implements the vision I’ve developed over the course of the last decade of what transformative, bespoke, and strategic tutoring looks like. I began tutoring the SAT part-time right after being admitted to college, but when I was working with 25+ students a few months later, I realized this was going to be more than just a side job. In the years since, I've worked with countless students across the U.S. and internationally, from New York to Seattle to Rome, and at Princeton, I honed my teaching skills as a peer tutor, grader, and curriculum developer for the Computer Science Department. Grounded in this experience, together we’ll craft a plan that empowers your child to achieve their goals and thrive academically.
A bit more about me: I served as Vice President of my class at Princeton, I have experience in machine learning research and blockchain applications, and I wrote my senior thesis in philosophy of science. Beyond academics, I’ve worked as a Software and Machine Learning Engineer, I’m fluent in both Hebrew and Italian, and I’m a sports enthusiast and aspiring cook. Please reach out with any questions—I’m excited to get to work!
